Spring 2026 Bulang Shan Black

Spring 2026, Bulang Shan

Natural tea gardens from the Banzhang area

Yunnan style black with light roasted notes

Bulang Shan is not famous for its black tea, the aggressive material found there, which tends to be heavy on bitterness, astringency and general punch, allows the farmers to make great Pu-erh. But if you're a tea hipster, you might want to try something unconventional.

Since the early 2000s, a lot of tea gardens were established in the Banzhang area. The soil in this area surely has something special, the tea grown there often feature an unusual depth. The leaves of this black tea come from young unpruned tea gardens from that area, close to Xin Banzhang. The tea trees are allowed to grow tall in order to limit their yield and give more concentrated leaves. It was fun to give a classic Yunnan black processing to such material; the area produces mainly Pu-erh tea.

The natural bitterness and astringency has turned into heavy sweetness thanks to the oxidation. This is a solid black tea, with malty fragrance and a strong body.  Good for daily drinking  gongfu-style or in a mug.
