Oolong plantation located in Baoshan
Processed my Mr Zhong from Fen Shui Lin
Very comforting, great fragrance
In Autumn 2025, Mr Zhong, who mainly makes our Fen Shui Lin teas, has traveled to Baoshan, in the North West of Yunnan.
There was a time when Taiwanese tea makers would invest in plantations in Yunnan; that was over 30 years ago. Most of them have left, but they left a footprint in the Yunnan tea landscape.
Small oolong tea plantations are scattered across the province. They like high altitude and can withstand a colder climate than the local assamica varietals; as a result, you can find them at very high altitude, or in the lesser known tea areas of Yunnan, such as Baoshan.
This tea was quite heavily oxidized for an oolong, the raw material was probably bug-bitten, the leaves were tightly rolled into tiny balls, and finally, a light roast was applied. Let's call it Baoshan beauty, because the taste reminds a lot of an oriental beauty, even though the ball-shaped rolling and light roast would make it closer to a Gui Fei, if it were a Taiwanese tea.
This is all the magic of tea making. You can make whatever you want!
The tea has an umami opening -which is why I think it was bug-bitten- the soup is medium thick and has a good fragrance. It is soft and not bitter, making it an alternative to the more aggressive black teas we produce in Jingmai.
