Mang Nuo is a small town located East of Shuangjiang and close to Mengku, in Lincang County.
While I was in the shop taking pictures of new teas, I thought it'd be nice to have a single trees production from a new area. And just as I had that thought, a young man walked into my shop. If was from Lincang and was traveling to Pu'er city to promote his teas. This is quite rare because we're not in the tea market and quite far from the city center. He just happened to have a customer nearby and was offering samples to the shops around. We sat and drank his teas for two hours. We prefer to travel directly to the mountains to source tea, but you can't ignore fate. All the tea we tried were very good, they had some of that fragrant mengku profile, but also more punch than usual for Lincang teas.
While located close to Shuangjiang, Mang Nuo is not a famous area, I had never heard of it before and will be looking forward to traveling there.
Since we already bought a lot of tea for pressing, we opted to buy a small quantity of his single tree production and sell it loose. He only had 7kg in his batch. So here it is!
The tea feels very clean and sharp, it has forest tea characteristics (dark green leaves and that special fresh fragrance). The soup feels fairly light in the mouth but you can feel it flowing down the throat, it cleans you esophagus like good Lao Banzhang tea and will then caress your stomach. If you like Menghai tea and want to broaden your horizon, this is a great choice.
