He started his tea factory in 2010, just like Yubai did in Jingmai. We've exchanged a lot of knowledge and were always interested in his productions. This year was the right time to share his productions outside China. He operates a tea factory in Banpo Laozhai, the most visited village on Nannuo Mountain because of the extensive areas of ancient tea gardens it hosts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis tea shows its full potential from the first brew, it coats the mouth at the first sip on the sweetness won't leave you until long after the session. Nannuo Shan teas tend to be straightforward and feature good complexity in the mouth, this one is a good example of it. The fragrance is fruity and the body is thick. Bitterness is present, along with a light astringency. The session feels very dynamic and the taste changes a lot throughout the session. Huigan doesn't come as early as in Jingmai teas, you have to wait for a couple of brews to get that refreshing feel in the throat. Da Fa is our contact in Nannuo Mountain and we've been working together on several tea projects since 2012. When he's not making tea, he likes to fix motorbikes and cars, his engineering skills show in the design of his tea factory. He designed very clever systems to make processing more convenient. He cooked this tea in a gas-heated wok, which is interesting because he can control the intensity of the fire with a lever while frying the tea.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe dedication shows well in this tea, the processing quality is top-notch. The leaves were picked from the gardens of Banpo Lao Zhai, one of the most famous villages in Nannuo. The trees grow on medium slopes, the soil of his garden has a surprisingly high amount of organic matter, a dark layer of humus covers the first 30cm. Yet, their advantageous location hindered them in the exploration of their soil. Indeed, the constant flow of tourists meant they didn't need to \u003cstrong\u003ework hard to make quality tea\u003c\/strong\u003e. Any tea would sell anyway.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBuying Nannuo Shan is hit and miss. We found out these skills translate well to tea processing. While most farmers use wood as an energy source; Da Fa uses natural gas. It is a common option for machine processing but rarely for woks; he adapted the gas pipes himself to perfectly fit his woks and deliver the heat in a specific way. Using gas has a few advantages: you don't need to gather wood, you don't have smoke (gas only produces water when burnt) and the fire strength is controllable by a handle besides the wok. No need for a second person to tweak the fire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDa Fa's \u003cstrong\u003eperfectionism\u003c\/strong\u003e can be felt in the cup, the tea is as good as Nannuo can be. While Nannuo often means flowery high fragrance and flat mouthfeel, this tea is juicy and plush. The leaf quality is equivalent to our high-end modern pressings, and the storage was expertly done, something very hard to find in Pu'er City, where such an old tea would have typically stayed in the mountain for a while, exposed to the environment; then brought back to the city and stored in a warehouse with regular humidity spikes. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnder Luo Yong Sheng's care, the tea aged with sufficient humidity, which allowed it to keep its original strong profile (Banpo village is known to produce the most powerful tea in Nannuo Mountain). Yet, you can feel this tea never got too wet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fragrance is woody and the liquor flows down the throat in all cleanliness. The Huigan (throat sweetness) is very refreshing. The tea starts to get camphor-like notes, we can expect them to develop further as the tea keeps aging. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis tea has a powerful body feel and will make you sweat moderately.
