Of the ones we sourced back in 2020, Dong Guo was the one we kept reaching at. This was our first choice for a new Mengku tea. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe rarely drink teas from that region in Pu'er City. The tasting session shows a different character from the usual Menghai or Jingmai teas.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCitrus dominates the session, both in the fragrance and the mouthfeel. This tea displays almost no bitterness, but a pretty strong astringency, which, coupled with an intense fragrance, give the impression to bite through a lemon. It is the kind of tea which, after a couple of years, turns into orange juice. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe thickness is medium-light, leaving the mouth feel a bit dry after swallowing due to the astringency. It can sound unpleasant at a first sip, but you get to enjoy it over the session, it makes the tea playful on the tongue. Depending on how you brew it, it will come out very different. On the lighter side, it will be fragrant and ethereal; keep it in the gaiwan for longer and it will punch you in the mouth with its astringency. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis mengku tea is an outlier in our collection. In 2025, it tastes more refined than what we offered in 2021 and 2023. It's an upfront tea, it doesn't feature much in terms of Cha Qi or depth, it's more about the fragrance and the mouthfeel. In this area, it does deliver, it is an entertaining experience. Astringency is heavy but feels adequate for this kind of style.
