She lives in Wei Dong, a village located in the South of Bulang Shan. The inhabitants of Wei Dong are from the Hani ethny, they lived in Lao Banzhang before moving to what currently makes Wei Dong: a plateau surrounded by hills. Rice is planted on the plateau while tea grows on the hills around.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNatural tea gardens were planted about 40 years ago and haven't been sprayed with pesticides for over a decade. They look quite similar to the ones we have in Jingmai, they are pruned only once every couple of years and are not fertilized.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe spent a couple of days, processing the early batches of Spring with our friend to warm up and share tips. The earliest sprouts are rarely the best of the season, but the tea we had made tasted promising, so we ordered 30kg of tea from our friend, she would keep some of her best batches for us.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe received the tea in early May, and were delighted. We had in stone-pressed in Puer city: 100g and 357g cakes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe tea is a good example of Bulang mountain productions. It starts on the lighter side and releases good bitterness and sweetness as the leaves open up. The fragrance is both floral and herbaceous, the mouthfeel is light despite the power of the tea. Astringency starts high and tones down as the session goes, bitterness is present from the middle to the end. This tea has a lot of caffeine and will surely give you a boost. The bitterness is medium to strong, but not punishing. It produces some of the best plantation tea. Its ancient tea gardens are mostly concentrated around Lao Man E, whose prices have soared again this year. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe prefer to offer good price for value. The age of the trees is only one of the many factors that influence the taste of tea. Another one is soil, and the one in Weidong village seems very fit to growing quality tea. The village is now established in the middle of a flatland, surrounded by hills on all sides. The farmers grow rice in the fertile soil of the plain while tea was planted all around the village on the high grounds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJust like in Jingmai, tea plantations were established in Weidong about 40 years ago, first managed intensively, they have been reconverted into natural tea gardens twelve years ago under the government impulsion in order to adapt to the new demand for clean and tasty tea.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis tea has a light mouthfeel at the beginning and gets more and more intense. The bitterness is medium and pleasant, astringency is medium. You will be surprised by the intensity of the Huigan, despite this tea being from young trees, you'll get your money's worth of throat cooling. But if you're a tea hipster, you might want to try something unconventional. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSince the early 2000s, a lot of tea gardens were established in the Banzhang area. The soil in this area surely has something special, the tea grown there often feature an unusual depth. The leaves of this black tea come from young unpruned tea gardens from that area, close to Xin Banzhang. The tea trees are allowed to grow tall in order to limit their yield and give more concentrated leaves. It was fun to give a classic Yunnan black processing to such material; the area produces mainly Pu-erh tea. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe natural bitterness and astringency has turned into heavy sweetness thanks to the oxidation.
